Tech Summit 2018 (Frankfurt, Germany)

A global and free event from Microsoft for the community to show off all the new cool stuff, Microsoft will provide in the actual and the next year. Also, the strategy of Microsoft for the next time is shown by high-ranking speakers from all around the globe.
This year Microsoft’s topics were focused on the current discussion about digital transformation in the government and the industry, supported by the newest office and cloud technology which can create value on our way of transformation and empower employees to do their job in a modern end cost effective way. More than 2000 professionals listened to the great speeches in 11 “clouds” you can see in the picture below (seems to be igloos, I think). Especially the hi-security conditions of the German market and the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union were discussed. Mobility, security and the slow adaption of the cloud by German companies were main topics at the Tech Summit 2018, too.

The Keynotes

Create a modern workplace with Microsoft 365
by Giovanni Mezgec (General Manager, Microsoft Office 365)

The workspace is transforming – from changing employee expectations, to more diverse and globally distributed teams, to an increasing complex threat landscape. Today’s IT professionals are at the center of this transformation – embedded in the business, leading the conversation, architecting solutions. For IT, that means being a catalyst for this change, evolving how you think about the tools you deliver for your organization. Giovanni Mezgec described how Microsoft 365 integrates the best across Windows 10, Office 365, and Enterprise Mobility Suites (EMS) into a complete, intelligent and secure solution to empower employees. There is a cloud based and an on premise solution of Office 365, which you can choose, to meet your companies goals.

Microsoft Azure: Cloud for all
by Corey Sanders (Director of Compute, Microsoft Azure)

Azure is the cloud that can meet the most rigorous and mission critical requirement of governments and enterprise customers. Microsoft seems to know that that your success won’t be measured by quantity of features; Azure uniquely unlocks cloud-based success for all. The session was focused on innovations in four key areas: enabling IT and developer productivity, providing a consistent hybrid cloud solution, unlocking Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions and ensuring trust through security, privacy and cost control. There are three types of Azure cloud available today: the global Azure cloud, the German isolated Azure Cloud trusteed by the German Telecom (T-Systems) and the on premise Azure Stack in your datacenter.

Session time

After the great keynotes there were a lot of interesting sessions with Microsoft program managers, professionals and MVPs. My goal was to structure my event experience in the most effective way, with a wide range of topics. I started with Azure fundamentals and techniques, followed by AI platforms for next generation applications, a short switch to DevOps best practices for Azure and Visual Studio Team Services (VSTS) and last, but not least using Windows and Linux Docker Container in Azure with Kubernetes for application modernization.

All in all, a very inspiring day with the Microsoft guys, many MVPs and a lot of cool people from all around the globe which want to make the world a better place. We all design our future and it is a so interesting and inspiring time for IT professionals, in which we live in today, so I’m proud to live in here today and have the possibility to change something. Thanks to all for this great event!
